Robin Switzer KetoCon

Today’s interview is with KetoCon Founder and Organizer, Robin Switzer, affectionately known as THE Robin Switzer (@TheRobinSwitzer).  KetoCon is the largest conference of its kind, presenting the benefits of utilizing ketosis, biohacking, sleep hygiene, and various nutritional protocols to improve metabolic health. Robin has used the ketogenic diet to treat insulin resistance, recover from eating disorders and addiction, shed pounds, and control PCOS symptoms. I’ve known OF Robin for several years, but only met her in person last year, 2022, at KetoCon. She is a passionate voice for keto and a huge proponent of the keto community.  She works many many hours with a small team to create the magic that is KetoCon. Let’s dive in to hear more about Robin and the largest Keto Convention of its kind. If you haven’t attended before, you should DEFINITELY go! You can buy tickets here.

I Heart Keto Mart (IHKM): What inspired you to start KetoCon and how long has it been running?

Robin: We produced the first KetoCon event in 2017. The low-carb/keto online community had been building very fast, we had 450,000 people in our combined ketogenic lifestyle-focused Facebook Groups and we wanted to create an environment where wellness enthusiasts could gather to learn and grow.  There was also a significant amount of research taking place and we wanted to create a platform where that information could be shared, empowering each individual to take control of their own health.

IHKM: What was the biggest challenge to get KetoCon started and how did you grow it into the number one Keto Expo in the country?

Robin: The biggest challenge to producing an event of this size is the incredible expense and the time it takes to plan. We grew to our size because of a few basic tenants: (1) Always do the right thing (2) Provide an experience that cannot be matched anywhere else (3) Create community

IHKM: What has changed from the first KetoCon to KetoCon 2023?

Robin: KetoCon 2023 is a new and totally different event than we’ve produced in the past. Our underlying theme is the value of ketosis as a tool to optimize your health. However, we have learned that this protocol looks different for everyone. In addition, we are moving away from a focus on food, providing an opportunity to explore all pillars of health optimization. You will see a much larger variety of tools, supplements, food, and biohacking at KetoCon 2023.

IHKM: Why do you think the health community is slow to accept the health benefits of a whole foods low carb or ketogenic diet?

Robin: I don’t believe the health community is slow to accept these benefits. That time has passed. We are now in an environment where the research and success stories are at a critical mass. We have reached the tipping point and the health community understands the importance of metabolic health. I believe you will continue to see low carb, whole foods and ketogenic protocols used more often. We have too many people that are suffering from the effects of poor metabolic health. They need help and medication is not the answer.

IHKM: What is your greatest accomplishment with KetoCon?

Robin: We are still here 🙂 We maintained our community, our brand, and our reputation. The past few years have been incredibly challenging. We’ve continued on our path, worked very hard, and we pulled through. Not many live events can say that.

IHKM: What are you most excited about for the future of KetoCon?

Robin: My vision for KetoCon is to be a trusted source of learning and community—equal parts education and celebration. Nutrition is the most important element of metabolic health. This knowledge should be available to everyone.

IHKM: What is something unique about you that you would like our viewers to know about you and/or KetoCon?

Robin: While KetoCon may be the largest event of its kind, the team that works to produce this event is very small. It takes us a year to put together this event.
