What is Yeast?
Yeast is a one-celled fungus. When active, dry yeast eats sugar and starch and releases carbon dioxide bubbles and alcohol, which causes dough to rise. Active, dry yeast is dormant in the package, but it's easily activated by adding warm water and sometimes a bit of sugar.
*Nutritional yeast is a deactivated yeast that is used, especially by vegans, to thicken sauces and mimic the flavor of Parmesan cheese.
Yeast is natural and low-carb and has zero effect on insulin levels. It has only 2 net carbs / ¼ cup. It also has several health benefits:

Possible Side Effects From Ingesting Yeast?
Too much yeast can trigger diarrhea or a skin rash. It's rare, but if yeast overgrows and gets into your blood, it could cause infection throughout your whole body.
